Sociology

Sociology is the study of society. It aims to discover why people behave in certain ways and how they are influenced by their position in society, for instance their class, gender, age or ethnicity.

What can I do with an A level in Sociology?

Sociology is a full academic A level course. It will prepare you to study a wide variety of subjects at degree level as it involves a great deal of critical thinking and analysis.

Sociology particularly provides an excellent background for careers in law, journalism, teaching, social work, social policy, nursing and a range of management and business areas.

What are the course entry requirements?

They are the same as is required to gain a place at St Mary’s sixth form. We do not require any additional levels of qualification.

What are class sizes like?

We have three Year 12 classes this year which range from 20-28 students.
