Frequently asked questions

What will I study on the full time course?

The course is equally divided into the three areas of Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre.

The units cover everything from acting styles, through to movement in performance, Musical Theatre, singing techniques and choreography.

Does this course carry UCAS points?

Yes. it carries the same as three A-Level subjects.

Can I take an A-Level at the same time?

You can with permission from the SM6 team and with approval from the Performing Arts Faculty. This course is hugely demanding so we need to be certain that an extra course is the right thing for you.

Can I take the Acting course even if I want to study something else at University?

Yes. Universities appreciate the transferable skills studied within an Arts course. The written elements in all current Level 3 Arts courses also support university style research and writing styles.

What do you study?

We are proud to deliver all the major genres within Drama that you would expect to see on a University and/or Stage School audition day. Our units are created to support your progression into the wider variety of post-18 courses such as Theatre Directing, community Theatre Practitioners, as well as performance-based courses.

Does the Acting course offer UCAS points?

Yes. And it carries the largest points from any single Drama course in Hull and the wider region. Offering up to 84 Points, rather than 56 for a Standard Level 3 Drama/Acting course. We deliver the next qualification up, giving you the equivalent of 1.5 A-Levels.

How does this differ from an A-Level in Drama?

The BTEC Acting course offers slightly more freedom than the A-Level Drama course, and due to it being a bigger qualification course, more content is covered too. The performance pieces in a BTEC give you professional working experience, often being commissioned by local companies and charities to produce performances.
