If you'd like to join SM6 from September 2021 please click on the 'Apply Now' link. The application will be sent immediately through to us - we'll then contact you with information regarding the next steps.
Even if you're not completely sure of where you want to study, you can still complete the application. It will allow you to be kept up to date with all SM6 events and information, helping with your plans for post-16 education.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Mr Charlton .
Director of operations - SM6

Why SM6 should be your first choice !

Do you have to be Catholic to come to SM6?

No, you don't.
While we are a proud Catholic sixth form, our selection policy is based on recruiting keen, hard-working students, irrespective of their background. While we do offer many fantastic opportunities to further students’ engagement with Christianity, such as our annual trip to Lourdes, this is purely invitational and not a pre-requisite to join the sixth form.

Do you have to be a current Year 11 St Mary’s student to join SM6?

No, you do not. The majority of our sixth formers have joined us having studied at other schools in the city and wider region. Many come from even further afield such as London, Newcastle and Edinburgh!

Will I be able to fit in if I join from another school?

Yes, absolutely!
We pride ourselves on being a very inclusive and welcoming sixth form and students very quickly make friends, even if they do not know anyone when they join. Many students join SM6 who are in this situation and so it’s a perfect opportunity to start afresh and make new friends. There are always members of the SM6 Team on hand to support with your transition too.

Will there be lessons every day?

Almost all students will have lessons every day. The only exceptions to this are some extended BTEC courses, including Work Skills, in which one day in designated for work experience and so there are no timetabled lessons.

How old do you have to be to study at SM6?

The majority of students will join at 16, having completed their GCSEs. However, you are still eligible to enrol at SM6, as long as you won’t be starting your final year above the age of 19.

Is there a school uniform at SM6?

No, there is not a uniform for the sixth form. However, we do insist that students dress appropriately for an 11-19 environment.

What are the college hours?

Form time starts at 8:45am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Period 1 commences at 9:15 and Period 5 finishes at 15:35.
Lunch is 12:35-13:30.
There are often revision and support sessions that take place during lunch time and after college too.

How many subjects do I choose in Year 12?

We ask all choosing A Level or single A Level equivalent subjects to select 4 subjects in Year 12. Students selecting extended BTEC courses will only need to make one subject choice; their timetable will be filled with this one option. All students who have failed to achieve a grade 4 or above in Mathematics at GCSE, will have to choose re-sit Mathematics as one of their options.

How can I get to SM6?

We have a wide variety of bus transport provided from all over Hull and the East Riding. Please consult our ‘Transport’ section for more information.
